Hey fellow Propellers! Interested in having an impact on the way Entergy generates your electricity? The New Orleans City Council will host an open meeting on June 15th to hear public comments on Entergy New Orleans' draft Integrated Resource Plan, which includes a new natural gas plant, limited energy efficiency, and no renewable energy resources. The draft plan is in stark contrast to the specific direction given to the utility by their regulators. The City Council members have made clear statements showing support for more energy efficiency programming and in December, passed a resolution signifying they want an increase.

This month, Entergy will shutter it's nearly 60-year old Michoud gas plant in New Orleans East. To replace the power that Michoud provided, Entergy insists that they must build another gas plant on the same site. The Michoud plant came under fire recently after NASA and LSU released a research paper showing accelerated subsidence rates around the old Michoud plant site. According to USGS, the power plant has been taking approximately 10 Million gallons of water per day, which is tied to the subsidence of New Orleans East. Thus far, Entergy has not said whether it will continue to use ground water from NOLA East if it is allowed to build a new gas plant

The meeting is an opportunity for New Orleans' residents to voice their comments and concerns about the energy plan.

The meeting will be held at City Hall in the City Council Chambers from 12:30-2:00.

For more information about the proposed natural gas plant you can visit our website: www.all4energy.org

Hope to see y'all next Wednesday!

Fellow Propellers -

Energy Wise (energyla.org - over here in the back corner with Friends of Lafitte Greenway and Guns Modern) is hosting:

Happy Hour at Rusty Nail Tonight from 4pm-8pm 1100 Constance St.

We'll talk a little about our youth and adult energy efficiency education programs, have a little raffle and Rusty Nail is giving us 20% of the bar proceeds. But it's mostly just drinks and chatting.

Stop by for one drink, or the whole time, it'd be great to see friendly faces and friends and catch up outside the office.
